The Story

Coyote Joe's Restaurant is located in what was once the historic Arizona Hotel. Built in the late 1800's, this hotel housed what is said to be one of Arizona's earliest brothels. Traces of this buildingÆs past are still visible, such as the many doors leading into what is now our kitchen, as well as the obvious outlines of the numerous rooms which were upstairs. Remnants of a fire which was supposedly started by a disgruntled "customer" still remain.

Many stories abound regarding this historic Arizona property, one of which has to do with the haunting of the building. Patrons, employees and owners have seen and heard things in this building which testify to the presence of spirits. Footsteps, doors opening and closing, utensils flying off of the shelves in the kitchen, and random voices and sounds have made even the skeptical believe. Some think the spirits are former "ladies of the night" who never desired to leave. Perhaps the spirits come from underneath Coyote Joe's. Running below this building, and extending under most of Whiskey Row are abandoned tunnels that were said to be opium dens and laundry delivery routes run by Asian immigrants.

Today, the basement houses our office and the upstairs, our banquet facility, which comfortably seats up to 45 people. On the main floor, we offer our customers a variety of settings, whether it be in our bar, in the dining room, which is furnished with many family collectibles, or on our beautiful patio. We strive to provide food and service that are as equally satisfying and unique as the history this establishment has to offer. With a little help from the spirits, we hope that you enjoy the haunting pleasure of Coyote Joe's.
